Daniel Brooks newest addition to the SCHSL Office
The South Carolina High School League is pleased to announce the hiring of Daniel “Danny” Brooks for the position of Director of Educational Services.
Mr. Brooks is a familiar face at SCHSL track and field, cross country as well as leadership events. As a Benedict College graduate and award-winning coach, his background includes working with high school athletic programs and NCAA programs in addition to being a former special education teacher. Over the past 35 years, Coach Brooks has co-sponsored and spear-headed several summer enrichment and training programs for youth in and around the inner-city of Columbia. This includes the US Youth Games, Parks and Recreation, AAU, Columbia Urban League and Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs, 100 Black Men of the Midlands. Coach Brooks is the co-founder of Jump Start Athletics Speed and Agility, a training program that works with elite and professional athletes all over the state of South Carolina. The founder of the award-winning Reading with the Champions program Dreher High School.
Among many career accolades, some notable accomplishments include his part in starting the March Madness Reading Challenge as well as the Coaches Convocation in Lee County. He initiated the middle school track program in Richland County School District One. He was instrumental in the SCHSL Leadership Summit as a planning committee member and started the Lee County Athletic Leadership Summit. He was also instrumental in forming the North South Wrestling Tournament and the SCTCCCA Coaches Classic.

2004 NFHS Nation Coach of the Year Finalist
2012 Richland County School District One Coach of the Year
More than 55 times honored as Region and Conference Coach of the Year
2001-2004, 2008, 2012 SCTCCCA Coach of the Year
The primary goal for this position is to provide the leadership and vision for the development, promotion and implementation of all student-focused educational products, services and publications. The Director of Educational Services will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Educational Services Division.
Commissioner Jerome Singleton shares his excitement for this new position in the SCHSL Office by stating, “I am thrilled to name Mr. Brooks as the newest member of our league staff. He will certainly add to the talent already in place at the SCHSL Office. The new position will enhance the opportunities for not only our coaches, but also our student-athletes. Education, in and out of the classroom, is key to a productive and successful academic system. It is my hope this role will promote the SCHSL mission and vision even further.”
Mr. Brooks will start his new position on January 6, 2020. He is leaving his position with Lee County Public Schools as Student Services Coordinator and Hearing Officer.
