FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                                 Friday, February 9, 2018

COLUMBIA, SC- After a comprehensive investigation by members of the South Carolina High School League staff, the Fort Dorchester High School wrestling team will not be allowed to compete in the AAAAA State Wrestling Duals Championship due to an ineligible wrestler. The AAAAA Championship Match (regularly scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2018) is postponed until further notice.

It has been determined that Fort Dorchester High School had an ineligible wrestler to participate, which resulted in the school having to forfeit all contests in which the student athlete participated. (Their most recent contest was against River Bluff High School in the Lower State Finals.)  As a result of the forfeiture, River Bluff High School will compete in the AAAAA Wrestling Duals Championship.

“Accusations presented to the SCHSL must provide probable cause for an investigation to occur and be found valid after a detailed inquiry. The SCHSL regrets the schedule change for all student athletes and coaches involved,” states Commissioner Jerome Singleton.

Fort Dorchester High is appealing the forfeiture to the Executive Committee. Once the appeal process is complete, a new date for AAAAA Wrestling Duals Championship will be set.
